Giveth and Taketh

Brynn thinks bath time is very serious and requires a lot of thought, LOL!

Alright...I need a favor but can also hopefully give a favor to someone. I have some coupons for formula and since I'm still pumping I don't really have a need for them at the moment. Some will expire in a month or two and I don't want to let them go to waste. If you currently use either similac or nestle good start or enfamil email me your address and I'd be more than happy to pass them along to you. Kind of first come first serve if that's okay. It's not for much....just like 5 or 8 dollars off a purchase. But every little bit helps, right? I also have a small powdered can of Enfamil Lipil if anyone uses that.

Here's where I need a little help. I'm having a few friends over for the superbowl and am at a loss for an EASY....yes easy is the key word here appetizzer for the game. I'm a big fan of mexican food or anything I can dip something in. But I'm really open to new ideas. So please share. I would be so appreciative and so would my friends! Any favorite adult beverage recipes are always fun too...so please chime in!

This week is going well. Brynn is well over the 7lb mark and fitting like a champ in her newborn clothes. In fact I think we might actually be transitioning to the diaper size one from newborns soon! She is eating about every 3 hours and her daily intake is about 20 oz. How's that for some improvement!!! Her reflux and urppping up feedings prevent much more, but we're slowly working on it. Anything I can stuff in her I do to help out the weight gain. She is sleeping better also and I actually get some rest at night time sometimes, which is simply divine. Still not a big fan of the cute basinett from Pottery Barn Kids and she prefers sleeping in her boppy with her furry sister...but we're working on it.

My main goal right now is working on some babysitters for when we need them in the future. I've been talking with work as well about a return date in the future...but that's for another post. I can't believe I might have to leave the bambino sometime soon and rejoin the real world after being off for so long. The thought both excites and terrifies me all at the same time.

Right now some of my stuff I'm loving on TV is the new season of the Bachelor and Biggest Loser. My husband lost about 50 pounds after we got married and has kept it off for 7 years (I'm so proud of you!!!) so it's always one of our favs. I can't wait for the season premiere of Lost tonight as well although I have to admit so much happens from week to week I feel a bit lost myself, LOL! We caught up on my old favorites on DVR last night of How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory (my husband the engineer nerd loves this one!) and Brothers and Sisters and Desperate Housewives. I have to admit I was a little disappointed in the 100th episode of Desperate Housewives - there wasn't as much storyline as I would have liked.

Well...if you know of anyone who either has a good recipe or could use some coupons either leave me a comment or drop me an email...and I hope everyone is having a great week!

I think that it is funny that you used urp. I sing to avery my refluxy twin "mr burpman bring me a burp, make it the biggest that i'll every urp." If the enfamil coupons cover nutramigen, I would like one! I have to supplement with formula still for calories, so they get 1/2 scoop for 4oz breastmilk. They are gaining great, so we hope that this isnot much longer in that it is $25 a can. They seen to have issues with Neosure. Can't help on the easy recipes.....seems I am a taker: sorry.

we have a recipe that we call "the shit". not b/c of what it looks like, b/c it tastes good and is super easy:

1 can refried beans
1 pkg taco seasoning
2 tablespoons sour cream
shredded mexican blend or cheddar cheese.

you mix the beans, taco seasoning, and sour cream together (i usually add some cheese here, too), then top with the shredded cheese. i have baked it to melt the cheese and done it cold (kinda like a seven layer minus a few of the layers). it is so good! (and easy!)

This is the greatest dip ever!!!
INGREDIENTS
4 slices bacon or I just use real bacon bits and then you can skip step 1
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 cup mayonnaise
8 ounces Swiss cheese, shredded
2 green onions, finely chopped
4 buttery round crackers, crushed
Place bacon in a large skillet. Cook over medium-high heat until evenly brown. Drain, crumble, and set aside.
In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese with mayonnaise until smooth. Stir in Swiss cheese, onions, and bacon. Place bowl in microwave, and cook 2 minutes. Remove, and stir well. Return to microwave, and cook 2 to 4 minutes more. Sprinkle crushed crackers on top. Serve warm with crackers.

Hey Sara

I'd love any Good Start or Enfamil you have. We are currently working on switching to Good Start but Enfamil will be our fall back if it doesn't pan out for L. I'll email you. Oh and I have a recipe for an awesome dip - but gotta dig it out. :D

Brynn is so cute in her bath attire. Reflux is so much fun, you really learn to appreciate washing machines. Have fun with the party, my Dh always makes Con Queso dip, so I'm spoiled. I take care of the entrees and desserts.

I have a yummy recipe for a dip on my blog...it's our new fave. It takes one of each ingredient that I list. Here's the link...http://averittbabyjourney.blogspot.com/2009/01/cheesy-black-bean-dip.html (if you make it for several people, I would double the recipe) If I think of anything else, I will shoot them over to you. :)

Brynn is too cute. She makes some of the funniest facial expressions...her little personality is really coming through in the pics.

Hi Sara.
If you have similac coupons those would be great. Serafina is 8 months old now, and almost 20 lbs. Boy can she eat! (jennifermwojcik@gmail.com)

This sounds really gross, but it is so good.
Get a bag of fritos (the plain kind)
A can of hormel chili
Chop some red onions
1 cup of cheddar cheese.

Heat the chili through.
Place it on top of the fritos and add cheese and onions.

Melt cheese in conventional oven.

The cover the whole thing with mustard.

:)

It really is good... I make it for my husband's UCONN basketball friends. They love it!

Brynn looks great!

Say a prayer for my friend Diana's granddaughter--born 5 weeks early, pretty big because Mom had diabetes and toxemia... Lungs are immature, and the little one is on and off the ventilator.

These tiny babies... I think back to my doctor telling me about the worst case scenarios with my little one, and I know I am so lucky. So, if you pray, please keep these folk in your litany...

You could always make a taco salad. Chips, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and throw in the meat right before people come over so it doesn't get all soggy.

I LOVE the Biggest Loser. It's so motivating.

I have a good recipe for a Buffalo Chicken dip that you serve with either Triscuits or celery. Relatively low cal...

Canned chicken
Ranch dressing (I use fat free)
Low fat cheese
Frank's Red Hot

Mix it all up and put it in a crockpot. I forget the specific quantities, but I don't think it matters that much. If you want I can look up the recipe and email you. Just let me know.

Glad Brynn is doing so well!!!
And I emailed you about the Similac coupons.

Tortellini-Red Pepper Sticks
Cook package of tortellinis (I used 4 oz. 3-cheese) without salt according to pkg.

Clean and cut up 2 large red peppers into 3/4 inch pieces.

Put tortellinis and pepper in bowl and add approx 1/2 cup of your favorite Italian dressing and mix well.

Alternately slide on a 6-inch wooden skewer tortellinis (total 3)and red peppers (total 3). Serve room temp. (Note: I used 4-inch skewers and used 2 of each.) Makes approx 36.

Mainly a Midwife encouraged me to start reading your blog. It's been a delight to see Bryn's progress!

I like the following easy recipes:

1 container sour cream
1 pkg onion soup mix

mix together. serve with potato chips (not healthy) and cut veggies (healthy)

1 container sour cream
1 pkg ranch dressing
1 pkg cooked spinach (I usually get the frozen chopped spinach)
1 loaf of bread (the rye/white sourdough looks really pretty)

Mix first 3 ingredients together. Take bread and cut out a bread bowl. Scoop out remaining bread. Cut all the take out bread pieces into small pieces. Put dip in bowl, serve the dipping bread on the side.

The dip is also really good with chips if you don't want to mess with the bread.

And I've totally written everyone's recipes down. It's making me HUNGRY!!

I've been anxiously awaiting the LOST premiere as well. I have to say the first half was kind of disappointing. I was glad that it was a 2hr show or I would've been really annoyed after waiting so long for it!

I make some garlic potato skins that are very popular. The baking part takes time obviously but you can do almost everything in advance.

Bake a bunch of potatoes and at the same time roast a head of garlic (cut off the top quarter of a full head of garlic at the pointy end, wrap in tin foil tightly); bake garlic for about 15 minutes longer than potatoes -- when you can smell the garlic outside of the kitchen, it's done (email me if you want exact cooking times and I can check my recipe)

Take butter out of fridge to soften

Cut into quarters when potatoes are cool

Scoop out most of the flesh, leaving about 1/2 inch attached to the skins (you can use the flesh for mashed potatoes or something else if you want)

Squish the garlic out of the skin into a bowl, add a 1/2 to 1 stick of softened butter depending on your preferences, mix together

Put some garlic/butter on each skin

At this point, you can put them in the fridge covered for a day or two

When the guests arrive, put in 400 degree oven for 20 minutes (I like to cook in batches so that there's a steady stream of skins throughout the evening)

Serve with sour cream and enjoy!

I love Brynn's serious expression. :)

OMG chase hates the bassinet too! loves the boppy. I think its the squished up womb or person holding me inclined syndrome. I got him finally to sleep in it the passed two days. its a miricle. he will not however do nap time in anything but the boppy or on a couch cushion wedged up on a throw pillow. weirdo. gonna email you a recipe for bacon cheese cups, EVERYONE loves them and they only last about 20 mins after I put them out!

Good all purpose "beer dip" - best with pretzel sticks but any sturdy dipper would work with it.

2 pkgs cream cheese, softened
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 pkg Hidden Valley Ranch DIP mix (not the dressing mix)
4-6oz beer - any beer will do.

Blend first 3 ingredients and then add beer to make it thinner. Can serve immediately but I find it's better after a couple of hours.

The other all purpose favorite at our house is a hummus dip. Good with veggies, crackers, corn chips... you name it.

1 can of garbanzo beans (chick peas), drained
1/3c of tahini (sesame seed paste)
juice of 1/2 lemon
2 tablespoons oil (vegetable/oil/sunflower)
fresh ground pepper

Blend in food processor until smooth. SLOWLY add water if needed to help the consistency.

Can add fresh, minced garlic as desired or any other mix ins such as sun dried tomatoes, black olives, roasted peppers... so many options for flavor.

Enjoy the game!
