Lots of choices to make - paint and names

Slowly our computers are getting back up and running normally again. It's a pain to temporarily not have access to all of our equipment or files, or be able to scan things, but with reloading everything it's sure to work faster in the future. Also, we really needed to back up all of our photos especially on a separate hard drive because I would be heartbroken if something happened to them. So that's what my husband has been doing the over the last week. My sister and I joke that we're a bit of photo taking junkies - always taking pictures of things - although not necessarily good photos, just lots of photos, LOL!

The new hard drive my husband got is a terabyte (like I said - whatever the heck that means). And last night we were joking around because whenever he would say terabyte - little girl Spot would kick. So then he repeatedly said terabyte with his hand over where she was laying and tried to feel a kick. Yes it's offical - we are nerds and this is our current form of entertainment and about as exciting as life gets these days. But I wouldn't give these moments up for anything!

I am ashamed to admit I have begun to fall in love with my local UPS and FedEx delivery men. Not sure if it's the man in uniform or what (just kidding!) Or maybe it's the fact that I love getting packages, and since I'm on bedrest I order many things online now. Many things my husband can just pick up from most stores (one advantage to living in a larger metro area). But sometimes I just order the items on line because it saves time and running around for him - and then I get to have things come to my door! Yesterday, the UPS man was my knight in shining armor. He brought me two baby name books that I had ordered. We have a few favorites - but we can really get down to business and get serious :-) I wasn't sure what book to start with - but my dog made her suggestion so the choice was a little easier.

Last night while I watched Weeds on Showtime, I got through the letter H for girls names in the first book. We're both making a list of our favorites and will decide from there on any we agree on. After going through the book for a little while I decided a few things. First - there are a lot of freaky weird names out there. Those poor unfortunate future kids! (The name "douche" was actually an option for a girl, can you believe it? Also they listed Coco as a possibility for a boy. Girl I can see if someone liked it - for a boy no way.) Second - my husband thinks that I only like old fashioned granny names that sound like they're from the late 1800s or the 1920s. Probably true, since they are some of the more popular names these days - and I love older, very solid names. I don't find them granny - ish at all. I also have found that he likes several names I call late 1970s/1980s ditzy, stripper names. You can see where this process may take quite some time! The great thing is that instead of arguing, we laugh and make fun of each other's suggestions - at least we're having fun with it. Once we decide we'll tell people, it's not going to be a surprise.

We also heard back from out painter yesterday evening and he is starting next Tuesday - a week from today. It'll be a relief to have that portion done and then we can start to place things in the nursery as we get them. I tried to narrow down our paint color selections to three choices last night from Restoration Hardware. I love their paints - and the rest of our house is done in various colors from their store. It holds up well, and is easy to clean. When those paint sampler cans were being picked up I couldn't resist putting in my request for a little cute pink hat from one of my other favorite stores Janie and Jack. I had seen it online and knew it was on sale, plus that store is right next to Restoration at the mall. So I received my second little delivery of the day.

Once the paint was on the wall in a few sample areas - we realized that it shows up much darker on the can and swatch - so it's back to the drawing board. So much for the final three selections. I just don't want anything too dark for the nursery - and they look so light on the swatches, but so different on the wall. Otherwise, once the last piece of furniture is moved out this weekend - the room is ready for the work to start. The pale yellow will soon be gone - not that I minded it, I'm just ready for a little change.

Yesterday I had a quick appointment and got another shot in the bottom. The nurse always looks apologetic when giving my p17 shots because she forgets we did all the infertility meds and injections for months, and that I'm used to giving a similar type to myself. I only get them at the office because I have to go in every week anyways. The nurse at my OB office was shocked when I said that sometimes you are doing up to 5 (or more) shots a day during IVF or certain cycles. Since staff at most OB offices don't deal with anything infertility related (and instead send out to RE offices) - they really aren't familiar with the process that a lot of patients went through to get pregnant. Just kind of interesting.

Today should be a quiet day. Tomorrow I return to see my OB and get another cerclage/cervix check. I would be delighted if my cervical length would be anywhere near 2.0 cm or slightly higher and we could not be in the 1. anything range. Also, no funneling would also be a great thing. Cervical length can be a bit dynamic so just because it's 1.9 it could be as high as 2.5cm other times and vice versa - going up and down slightly. Other times, it just trends downward. When we started this process, I had no idea it could do that. Since mine has shortened the last few times despite the cerclage and bedrest - Meredith suggested hanging upside down from the ceiling like a bat. I've done that so we'll see if it helped at all, LOL!

My summer addiction Big Brother is on again tonight - and I get to see who wins Power of Veto...ahhh the suspense is building! Does anyone know if the cast memeber Reny (Renny?) is a breast cancer survivor? My husband and I were trying to figure that out the last few episodes - she never said so unless I missed it. Tomorrow is my favorite day - hump day (giggling again - will I ever stop?) Well, I hope it's a good one for everyone and thanks again for all the comments and imput. It sure helps keep a girl from going insane while on the couch. Honestly, it helps more than you will ever know.

Hi from ICLW! I LOVE getting packages delivered to my house :) I hate paying for shipping, though, so I usually don't order anything.....

Thanks for the update, Sara and wishing your cervix would be all dynamic in the increase lengthening dimension tomorrow. A Terabyte sounds like a carnivorous dinosaur. That is so funny about baby names, at the OB/GYN clinic at my former job, there was a sign in the waiting room, "Chylamidia is a DISEASE, Not a CHILD'S NAME". I kid you not. Good luck with the paint choices and love, love, love the little pink cap. ((Hugs))

The nurses at my OB's office always feel bad giving me injections, too. I'm like, PLEASE! I'm a pro! :)

I have that cute little hat, too. It's adorable. Good luck with the paint selection...

We also have the Baby Name Bible, and we did the same thing. I went through it first and wrote down all the names I liked. Scott went through my list and crossed off all the ones he did NOT like, and then went through the book in case there were any names he liked that I had missed. Then I went through the list and crossed off the ones I did NOT like. From there, we whittled the list down to our top three...and we are NOT sharing names.

That would be my one piece of advice to you. I didn't want to hear negative feedback on the names we have chosen, so we do not share. Stingy, huh? :)

Hi from ICLW! We are painting various rooms in our house right now too...it is super fun picking out colors. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

Mine kicked all through the Batman movie, making Matt incredibly proud.

I forgot to tell you, I'm with you, I prefer the names that have stood the test of time. I remember going to Hearst Castle a few years back and our tour guide's name was "Moon Beam" born in the 1960s. When I worked LDR, you learn to keep your best poker face when filling out the birth certificate paper work and asking how many "K"s in Hakuna Matata.

i wish you had showed us pics of the colors on the walls - i really should get a say in that you know (heh).

i am praying that all turns out well for you.

i am seriously addicted to BB. I do not remember them saying anything about renny being a cancer survivor. i checked online (a BB Blog) and i know who won the POV...i wont ruin the surprise for you though.

I love getting packages, too. Just got my bella bands! Yay!
My BFF let me borrow the BEST baby name book ever, called the Baby Name Wizard. It is just so neat and has cool thoughts behind why you'd chose a particular name. It also has like brother/sister name pairings which is so cool!
You sound cheerful and like things are progressing beautifully and I just love it. You are my insipration!

It sounds like you and little girl Spot are doing terrific! I was smiling the entire time I read your post- I can't wait to get to the point of painting the nursery and reading books on baby names! Make sure you are still taking it easy, and enjoy these days- sounds like Spot is going to be a feisty one!

Ahhh…the pictures of puppy never get old! Has she given her input on baby names?

If you think choosing paint colors for a bedroom is hard, try choosing a color for the entire exterior of a house! (Don’t get me started...ugh!) I love the neutrals you picked-out, and I’d have to say I’m partial to the green/sage tone on the left. I always joke that I’d have every room in our house painted some shade of tan or beige if DH would allow it. What accent/bedding colors have you decided to go with?

It was so special to read about spot-ette's latest performance. I can hardly wait until I can say I know how *amazing* that moment is!

If you need to borrow some "browns" for DH to "deliver" any "packages" to your house, let me know. DH is a proud UPS employee. :)

Wishing you nothing but boring news at tomorrow’s appointment!

I am thinking if Renny had been through something like that, she'd have told EVERYONE by now...but maybe she wants to keep it to herself for now...who knows? We will find out. P.S. - I LOVE MEMPHIS!! LOL!

That's a beautiful room with the hardwood floors! I love all of those colors.

Beware! Those baby name books will fry your brain! Hope you have a great day.

I think WRT the UPS men, it's the cute, brown shorts LOL! Remember the UPS guy in legally blond? I just signed up for @m@z0n prime and cc and am ordering anything orderable from there right now (peppermint tea, crackers, shoes are about to end up on that list too)

Packages are fun, I'm sure especially if you are on bedrest. I love the wood floors in that bedroom. They look so good. I hope your next appointment goes well and that your cervix is still holding steady.

100,000 names!!! We borrowed an older version of that book from my bil and it has 40,000---and that was ridiculous! We would spend 90% of our time laughing at names like Dijonnaise and Bacon (yes both are real names for little girls) that we never got to thinking about names we actually liked.

And I'm with Tracy, we aren't sharing names...too many people have too many opinions (I've done it myself) and this gets to be the one surprise we get to share with people

Um, heck no!

Where do they come up with these ideas?

Hope your cervix is behaving at the next check,

I remember thinking how odd some of the names are in those "overpriced" baby name books -- HHHEEEEEEEEYYYYYY that's what you should do with all this couch arrest time -- write a doggie name book. I'd buy it. Only to support you of course. So douce -- I kind of like it. You would get more odd looks and questions than me and my 50 foot long stroller....... here's to a long cervix.........sam

Baby naming is HARD! We've finally narrowed it down...I think.

I am watching BB this season. I have had no reason to think Renny ever had breast cancer. Did I miss something?

Only good news for today's appointment, Sara!

I cannot wait to see those nursery walls painted with the color you choose! I think any one of the three or a combination of them (once you get the right shade down) will be just lovely for your precious Spot!

I have an old fashioned granny name-Betsy

And I'm so glad that I have it. Its unique but classic. Thats what I like about names popular in the nursing homes. My husband likes old fashioned names too so hopefully we'll be in agreement when the time comes to choose names.

If you take a lot of pictures now, wait until the baby comes!? You will be snapping until your finger comes off!! LOL!! Good luck at your appt and can't wait to hear all the good news!!

Wow, you two are totally on the ball. Your kinda freaking me out a little bit. Could you take it easy and be a little more disorganized? A room? With 4 walls? For Spot to live in? You don't want to spoil her too much!!!!:) We'll get there one day - we will.

The name hunt is fun, huh? Gets a little frustrating when you realize you just can't seem to find the right one. I hope it comes quickly.

Have a great check today.

We did the same thing when picking out names. We would go through and write down our favorites and shortened the list several times before coming up with the names. I can't wait to hear what her name will be.

I hope you have a great appointment today!

Best of luck with the baby naming, my husband also tends to select what I call "stripper names." It must be in the testosterone!

The UPS driver makes every day feel like Christmas! I get a bigger thrill out of opening packages than I do shopping.

Have fun picking out little girl names :o)

Soapchick said...

Yeah for packages! So have you picked out your crib set yet? Maybe you can pick that out first and then pick the paint color that matches it best? Just a thought - feel free to ignore.

Hoping today's appt. has great news!

As far as the names go - I'm not even close to being pregnant and I already have my short list on the home page of my blog. I don't care if other people like my names or not, I'm not going to be quiet about them.

Oh my gosh. The terabyte/kicking story made me laugh out loud! That is awesome.

I love getting packages too! Although most of mine these days have been infertility meds. We had our blast transfer today, so hopefully, I'll be done with getting any new meds!!!

Hoping your cervix is nice and long!

Enjoy this magical time, it is priceless. Felling the baby moving, picking names, getting the nursery ready... all so magical! I was also accused of only liking old fashioned granny names, and Lyla is a very old name from the 1800's. I hope that the appt tomorrow brings great news! Please send me you address via e-mail (cibelesec@hotmail.com). I want to send a little gift for your baby girl.

I hope the cervix check went okay today! Please update soon :) Thank you so much for your kindness. You are such a sweet person.

I love the idea of picking names, there are so many to choose from! Of course being a designer, I love to pick colors too, although that isn't my strong suit. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Returning your post from ICLW, thanks for reading and for writing...

Maybe you're seeing so many weird names because you bought books that have 50,000 and 100,000! There can't possibly be 50,000 good names, so you end up with Douche.

The baby names book that DH bought for me years before we were TTC only has 20,000 (actually, 20,001). It looks like a cheap-o paperback so I thought he bought a bad one, but after he bought it I looked through every baby name book in the store and the one he got turned out to be the best one! I picked a few names that I know to have specific meanings and origins, and it was the most complete and accurate.

I just checked, and it only has 3 of the 6 Jolie-Pitt baby names, so I guess Brad and Angelina might prefer one of your books. :)

Wow, I can give myself injections in the thigh, but I haven't managed one in the behind on my own!

It sounds like we have similar taste in names, too :)

Hope you got good news at the appointment today!

Just Me. said...

Had to giggle about the Douche name! This is just purely me, but I wouldn't name my kid A.P.P.L.E. Sorry, I don't want her to suffer in school, getting teased incessantly by her "unique" name.

I know i've said this so many times, but your furry baby's so cute!

Anonymous said...

agreed my one peice of fool proof advice is do not share your top name pics. Obviously if you have it as a pic you like it a lot. Poeple do not take this into account when they make fun of it or insult it or are just plain rude about it. My "MIL" caused me to stop sharing the names. Walker, Anders and my best friend know that is it.
It is a lot harder to hold an adorable baby and insult the name you were told he or she was given. So our child will be named for what it looks like out of the list we narrowed down and no one will know the name until Walker, Anders and i have spent time with teh baby and decided. screw other people.

FYI- take it for what it is but what about the name Tera (Tara) ha ha she seems to like it now huh? Terabyte LOVE THAT STORY!!
