Hospital Bill
As a crazy sidenote...I got our final hospital bill from my stay from 27-34 weeks gestation and it was $126,700. That doesn't include my stay at 22 weeks or 25 weeks when I was contracting and received terbutaline and procardia. Also not included is my cerclage ($12,000) or my D &C afterwards ($6,000). Crazy....thank heavens for insurance! Even though I work in the medical field I'm shocked at the costs. Even though Brynn took a lot to get here that wasn't covered by insurance ($30,000 +) since Michigan doesn't have infertility coverage...I have to think that surrogacy is still going to be cheaper to the medical field. Even though I complain about our cruddy hospital based insurance...the final cost of it all....$10. (Plus the $30,000 out of pocket due to infertility treatments...but that is A -OK) Yup. What a blessing!

zowie!
I can't tell you how lucky you are to have great insurance. Just yesterday my husband and I were trying to decide if we should persue bankruptcy from all the medical bills that are rolling in. I'll explain further in a later post. But, yes, its sad to see how much American healthcare over charges. Its sickening.
WOW! $10!??? That is AWESOME!
Yikes!! It was worth every penny though, right!?
Your bill compare to mine great. When my son was in NICU for 12 weeks the total cost from NICU excluding the doctors over 600,000 plus the 80,000 for my in vitro. For us the final was 2500. Not bad but when I first saw the numbers my head spinned. It was all worth it and will try again . Good luck with the surogacy you are lucky that you have found someone that special. I wish I had a friend like that. Martina
That is a lot. I know for my appendix a couple of years ago I was blown away at the bill of 26K. Thank goodness for insurance. I know also that my hospital based insurance has always been way better than any other insurance even if I have to use the hospital I work at.
Nice. Ours was $155,000 for the one months stay and another $20,000 for the birth. We are the insurance industry's worst nightare!!!
With all the hospital stays that we had with Bug as well as the preterm labor and hospital bed rest. We still didn't have to pay a dime. At the time hubby had incredible insurance.
We moved, new job, new ins.
Now I have multiple bills coming in-- just from UU and MTHFR dx. new insur. doesnt cover everything.
A little bit here, a little bit there. We aren't even pregnant yet and we are broke.
I need to find the end of the rainbow. or the money tree. or a long lost great great uncle's inheritance. robbing a bank might work.
It's nice to hear that insurance was helpful for a change.
That's insane. I'm so glad you had awesome insurance.
The neighbor story - creepy and funny in a I'm glad it wasn't me, wow mom's are really tired kinda way.
~~HUGS~~
WOW, you have a great insurance. My total hospital bill has 50,000 , I was in shock! Lyla's stay at the hospital becuase of RSV, 27,00... I wish my bill was 10U$ LOL
Hospital bills are ridiculous! Thank goodness for insurance!! Like previous commenters, our NICU bills for the girls were insane - $350,000.
Yeah, Elizabeth was about $30,000, I think, and that was only with a two day hospital stay. We had to pay $1000 of that, so not bad, in my opinion.
Whoa! It's funny that you posted this...my husband just asked what I thought the bill would be if I ended up on bed rest in the hospital (my new high risk dr told me this is a good possibility.
Now I have the very scary truth:) We'll get those insurance bastards back somehow for not paying for our infertility treatments, lol.
OUCHIE! Only $10? You have fabulous insurance, I am wicked jealous. My c-section and stay cost $23,000 and we had to pay about 10% of that ourselves. Such crap.
Wow!! That is insane!
You have an award awaiting you dear friend... click on over to my blog to get it :D
You were lucky ~ my 2 week hospital stay was $55,000 and then my son was in th NICU for 6 weeks and his bill was over $500,000. ( he had no complications and no surgeries) We didn't get to see a final bill for my son because after they billed both of our insurance companies the state picked up the tab since he was in the NICU more than 28 days. Once the state was involved we were unable to see bills. Our out of pocket for me was only $176.
So while I agree insurance is our of control I don't think I will ever be able to really complain ~ we got our money's worth with our miracle.
Congratulations on your miracle!
yikes!! She's beautiful and growing like a weed, a pretty pink weed of course!!
I know that we all will celebrate when all insurance companies cover infertility treatments.
